「賞を譲る」という愚行｜マチャド氏への失望とベネズエラの危うい未来
先日、ベネズエラの民主化運動への貢献が評価されて、ノーベル平和賞を受賞したマチャド氏が、トランプ大統領に「賞を譲りたい」と発言したとの由。
なんと馬鹿げたことを発言したのかと唖然とした。
米軍の軍事侵攻によってマドゥロ大統領が連れ去られたことで、ベネズエラが本当に救われたと信じているのだろうか。
トランプが掲げる麻薬撲滅や独裁打倒はあくまで表向きの口実に過ぎず、その真意が石油利権の掌握にあることは火を見るより明らかだ。
そもそもトランプは、民主化には興味がなく、マチャド氏を本気で支持する気持ちはないだろう。
マチャド氏がこのまま指導者として国を民主化へと導けるかといえば、その前途は極めて多難だと思う。
目先の政権交代に歓喜し、トランプを救世主と仰ぐ気持ちは理解できなくもない。しかし、より大局的に見れば、たとえ独裁者が消えたとしても、国の資源を他国に握られてしまえば、それは果たして本当の独立と言えるのだろうか。トランプが決して救世主などではなかったという事実に、後々気づかされることになるのではないか。
ノーベル平和賞を受賞した人物としての振る舞いとしては、あまりに情けなく、失望を禁じ得ない。

The Folly of "Giving Away" the Prize: Disappointment in Machado and Venezuela’s Precarious Future
Recently, Maria Corina Machado, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her contributions to the Venezuelan democratization movement, reportedly stated that she wishes to "hand over" her prize to President Trump. I was left speechless by such an absurd remark.
Does she truly believe that Venezuela has been "saved" simply because President Maduro was seized and removed by the U.S. military invasion? Trump’s cited reasons—eradicating drugs and ousting a dictator—are mere pretexts. It is crystal clear that his true motive lies in seizing control of Venezuela’s oil interests.
Furthermore, Trump has no genuine interest in democracy, nor does he likely have any sincere desire to support Machado herself. Whether Machado can lead the nation toward true democracy as its leader remains a path fraught with immense difficulties.
It is understandable that Machado would rejoice in the immediate regime change and revere Trump as a "savior." However, taking a broader perspective, if a nation’s resources are seized by a foreign power, can that truly be called independence, even if the dictator is gone? I suspect that, in time, Machado will realize Trump was never a savior to Venezuela.
For a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, such behavior is deeply pathetic, and I cannot help but feel profound disappointment.
